Chief Nursing Officer

Maame Amankwah

Maame Amankwah is the market chief nursing officer for the Select Specialty Hospital Nashville market. In this role since April 2024, Maame is responsible for overseeing nursing staff in two hospitals (Nashville and Nashville West), ensuring high standards of nursing practice and implementing innovative strategies to improve patient outcomes. Maame also collaborates with other health care leaders to enhance communication and optimize patient care delivery. She is passionate about fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development among nursing staff, actively mentoring the next generation of nursing leaders and creating a positive working. Maame is an advocate for evidence-based practices and supports initiatives that promote workplace diversity and inclusion.

Prior to assuming the market CNO position, Maame served as the CNO for Select Specialty Hospital – Nashville. Maame is a Compassionate Clinical Leader with over 20 years of experience in Nursing and healthcare administration.

Maame has over 20 years of experience in nursing and health care administration and has held various clinical and leadership positions, including CEO, clinical chief office, director of nursing and staff nurse in trauma flight, emergency and adult critical care intensive care units.

A graduate of Belmont University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from University of Ghana, Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Ashworth University prior to earning a Nursing Degree. Maame holds masters and doctor of nursing degrees from Vanderbilt University and is a board-certified acute care and family nurse practitioner as well as an advanced palliative and hospital nurse practitioner.

Maame’s commitment to nursing excellence has been recognized with multiple awards such as Daisy and Sigma Theta Tau. Maame is a member of American Nursing Association, International Nurses’ Association, American Academy of Critical Care Nurses and American Nurses Credentialing Center.
