Medical Director

Dr. Vanitha Sivakumar

Dr. Vanitha Sivakumar is the Medical Director for Select Specialty Hospital - Hampton Roads. In this role since 2025, Dr. Sivakumar is responsible for overseeing the medical care provided at the facility, setting and enforcing standards of care and evaluating and treating cognitive deficits associated with acute conditions.

Before taking on the role of Medical Director, Dr. Sivakumar also worked as a hospitalist at Select Medical, as well as a medical consultant at Riverside Rehabilitation Hospital. Prior to Select, she worked as a hospitalist at Sentara and Riverside Regional Hospital delivering specialized care for patients with complex, prolonged health conditions, while covering code blues, admissions, consults and supervising residents. She also worked as assistant medical director at Freida Gordon Hospice and Palliative Care of Tidewater planning and coordinating medical services for patients nearing the end of their lives.

Vanitha Sivakumar attained her doctorate in medicine from the West Virginia School of Medicine. Subsequently, she went on to complete her residency at EVMS School of Medicine in 2011. Dr. Sivakumar has been licensed with the American Board of Internal Medicine since 2011.
