Dr. Rich Tyson, Medical Director

Dr. Rich Tyson serves as the medical director for Select Specialty Hospital – Nashville. In this role, he leads the medical staff and multidisciplinary team in caring for medically complex and chronically critically ill patients, oversees rounds and collaborates with hospital leadership to optimize care and outcomes.

Dr. Tyson has been medical director since 2008 and is board-certified in pulmonary disease, internal, critical care and sleep medicine. Additionally, he is a partner at Mid State Pulmonary, maintaining outpatient and inpatient practices, and an intensivist at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital.

Dr. Tyson earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Johns Hopkins University and medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed an internal medicine residency and pulmonary/critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, American Academy of Sleep Medicine and Christian Medical and Dental Association.
