About Us

About our hospital

Select Specialty Hospital – Pittsburgh is a 32-bed critical illness recovery hospital located on the eighth floor of UPMC Montefiore Hospital. We specialize in helping critically ill patients breathe, speak, eat, walk and think as independently as possible.

Public transit

The Port Authority (PAT) of Allegheny County offers convenient bus service to and within Oakland. Route schedules and maps are available in the lobbies of UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Montefiore. If you have questions, call the PAT customer service line at (412) 442-2000.

Valet service

You may self-park or take advantage of the convenient valet service. Valet service operates from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. weekdays at the UPMC Presbyterian driveway and is for patients of and visitors to UPMC Presbyterian and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Valet service for Falk Medical Building is available from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. weekdays from the rear driveway.

Shuttle service

UPMC's Blue Shuttle runs at various times on weekdays, looping the Oakland campus. Shuttle schedules, which include limited weekend service, are available at the information desks in UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Montefiore and Falk. If you have questions about these services, call Parking Operations at (412) 647-3194.

Cafeterias are located on the 11th floor of UPMC Presbyterian and fourth floor of UPMC Montefiore.

Hours

Daily: 6:30 - 2:30 a.m., serving breakfast, lunch and dinner (including overnight shifts). 

The UPMC Montefiore Cafeteria

Weekdays: 6:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., serving breakfast and lunch.

Serving times are posted at the cafeterias. You can listen to the daily menu by dialing 412.647.4EAT (4328).

The Ladies Hospital Aid Society (LHAS) Coffee Shop

Located in UPMC Montefiore’s the gift shop on the 7 Main level.

Weekdays: 6:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. 
Weekends: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekends. 
Holiday hours vary.

Refreshments are available from 6:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the ground level of UPMC Presbyterian, near the escalators and at Falk Medical Building in the Fifth Avenue lobby.

For a charge, patients or visitors may request guest tray delivery to the patient room. To place an order, ask a nurse.

Kosher meals

Fresh kosher patient meals are prepared by staff at Mashgiachs and are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The cafeterias also offer kosher sandwiches and cold plates.

Patients and visitors may order hot and deli kosher meals from the kosher kitchen at (412) 648-6192.

In addition, the hospital is located in Pittsburgh’s historic Oakland neighborhood. Many stores and services are within easy walking distance. These include establishments for baked goods; books and magazines; cards, gifts, and flowers; convenience items and groceries; drugs; dry cleaning and laundering; hair care; and meals.

Local hotels and restaurants

There are a number of hotels and motels near our hospital (some of which may offer special rates to our guests), along with a wide range of restaurants and dining options.

Pricing transparency

Effective January 1, 2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is requiring hospitals to make standard charges public. CMS issued a final rule on November 15, 2019 that provides the details related to the required information. Hospitals are expected to update this information at least annually or more often as appropriate, to reflect current charges. Note the standard charges provided may not accurately reflect what any given individual is likely to pay for a particular service, as this will be dependent upon your insurance coverage and the terms of the insurance plan. You should check with your insurance coverage to determine if you will have, any out of pocket costs. Note, some charges may be subject to change during the year without notice and the timing of updates may affect the posted charges on this site.

Note that other healthcare providers who may separately bill the patient may provide some services in our hospital and that provider may or may not participate with the same health insurers or health maintenance organizations as our hospital.
