Chief Nursing Officer

Steven McCarty, MBA, BSN, RN

Steven McCarty is the chief nursing officer for Select Specialty Hospital - Knoxville. In this role since 2024, Steven is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, quality patient care at all times. Together with the chief executive officer, Steven leads a team of nurses, techs, secretaries and monitor technicians, and partners with all the subspecialties of respiratory care and rehabilitation services to provide exceptional care to our patients.

Prior to his current position, Steven served as an interim chief nursing officer, senior chief nursing officer and market chief nursing officer. Steven started with Select Specialty over five years ago as a chief nursing officer at Select Specialty Hospital – North Knoxville.

Before joining Select Medical, Steven was a chief nursing officer at a large hospital system. His background includes nursing administration, flight nursing and emergency department leadership at various levels. He has been a registered nurse for almost 40 years.

Steven obtained his Associates Degree in Science and Nursing in Toledo Ohio. He quickly went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and then a Master of Business Administration with King University in Bristol, Tennessee.
