Dr. Craig Rackley, Medical Director

Dr. Craig Rackley is the medical director of Select Specialty Hospital - Durham.  In this role since 2016, he develops clinical protocols, oversees quality metrics and provides support to the hospital’s medical staff.

Board-certified in internal, pulmonary and critical care medicine, Dr. Rackley is also an associate professor of medicine at Duke University Medical Center. There, he teaches students, residents and fellows, attends in the medical intensive care unit and directs Duke’s extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) program.

Major research interests include enhancing care for severe respiratory failure patients requiring ECMO support and helping people manage chronic critical illness. He has been published numerous times and frequently lectures at national and international meetings.

Dr. Rackley earned bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology at Oklahoma State University and received a medical degree from Georgetown University. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco and earned a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Duke University.

He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, Extracorporeal Life Support Organization, American College of Chest Physicians and the American Association for Respiratory Care.
