Patient Success Stories
Joanne's Story
Shortly after Christmas, Joanne found herself hospitalized from an infection and on a ventilator after surgery. "They moved me to Select even though I wasn't off of the machine." Joanne became more aware of her situation when faced with the decision to allow amputation of her toes and two of her fingers. "With support of my family, my minister and the Select staff I faced what had to be done."
Joanne's condition improved after her last surgery. She learned to swallow, eat, and stand. Joanne could dress with help and walk independently. "Select's nurses and therapists gave me hope that I could recover. Despite challenges, I returned to using my artistic talents in my garden, in front of a canvas, decorating my new home and playing my piano. I appreciate things differently now and make every moment one worth keeping."
