Select Specialty Hospital - Wilmington combines the specialized expertise of a large hospital with the personalized attention of a smaller setting.

Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for a longer acute care stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma, or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care for optimal recovery. Select Specialty Hospitals are designed specifically to meet the needs of these types of extended acute care patients.

We have many specialized programs which are listed below, but there are two we would like to share more in depth with you.

Our Pulmonary program provides comprehensive pulmonary management for patients requiring diverse medical and respiratory care. Our primary focus is to restore normal airway/pulmonary functioning while providing the patient with rest and pulmonary muscle reconditioning. Ventilator dependent patients are treated aggressively and progressively toward weaning as they can individually tolerate.

Our Wound Care Program is directed by our Chief Nursing Officer. We have a team of nurses, headed by our Wound Care Nurse, Frank Kelly, RN. They provide aggressive wound management to the patients with impaired tissue integrity who are at risk for complications.

Each patient is also assigned a case manager who will guide their case from admission through discharge. The case manager is available to answer questions, assist with insurance and to plan a safe, timely and appropriate discharge. Select Specialty Hospitals are Medicare certified and accredited by the Joint Commission. We participate with most major health insurers.

We are located on the 5th floor(s) of Saint Francis Hospital, which allows us seamless transition of patients.

Our Admissions Coordinator will process your referrals to Select Specialty Hospital - Wilmington quickly and efficiently. An on-site evaluation of the patient will be completed by a Clinical Liaison within hours of the referral. The Clinical Liaison is your personal contact to Select Specialty Hospital. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the services we provide. Once an admission decision has been determined, the patient can often transfer the same day.
