Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for a longer acute care stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma, or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care for optimal recovery. Select Specialty Hospitals are designed specifically to meet the needs of these types of extended acute care patients.

At Select Specialty Hospital - Western Missouri, we offer an individualized approach to each patient. Pulmonary physicians guide our team of experienced respiratory therapists through the ventilator weaning process and strive to achieve a favorable weaning rate. Our team approach helps assure competency and safety for even the most complex respiratory patients. Our wound care team is available 24/7 to provide the most comprehensive and up to date wound care modalities and on-site surgical services are available if needed. Often, complex patients will also need access to cardiac interventions. Working with our critical care physicians, our staff is able to provide full cardiac monitoring and critical medications as prescribed to provide the highest level of care possible. Our goal is to return patients to their highest possible level of functioning- be it home, rehab, or skilled care.

Each patient is also assigned a case manager who will guide their case from admission through discharge. The case manager is available to answer questions, assist with insurance and to plan a safe, timely and appropriate discharge. Select Specialty Hospitals are Medicare certified and accredited by the Joint Commission. We participate with most major health insurers.

We are located on the 3 West floor(s) of Research Medical Center, which allows us seamless transition of patients.

Our Admissions Coordinator will process your referrals to Select Specialty Hospital - Western Missouri quickly and efficiently. An on-site evaluation of the patient will be completed by a Clinical Liaison within hours of the referral. The Clinical Liaison is your personal contact to Select Specialty Hospital. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the services we provide. Once an admission decision has been determined, the patient can often transfer the same day.
