Our Admissions Coordinator will process your referrals to Select Specialty Hospital - Tri Cities quickly and efficiently. An on-site evaluation of the patient will be completed by a Clinical Liaison within hours of the referral. The Clinical Liaison is your personal contact to Select Specialty Hospital. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the services we provide. Once an admission decision has been determined, the patient can often transfer the same day.

Medical Director

John G. Byers, Jr. M.D., FCCP was raised in Falls Church/McClean, Va. He attended Medical School and Internship at Medical College of Virginia (now part of VCU) 1964-1968- awarded M.D.

Dr. Byers was drafted into U.S. Army, Honorable discharge October 1973. He began residency in internal medicine 1973-1975 MCV in Richmond, Va. Dr. Byers has fellowship in pulmonary medicine from 1975-1977 at McGuire VAH and MCV hospitals, Richmond, Va. Dr. Byers is Board Certified Internal Medicine.

He entered practice with Midway Medical Group (now Blue Ridge Medical Specialists) Bristol, Tn. October 1977 - October 2007. Dr. Byers was Medical Director Respiratory Therapy and Pulmonary Physiology Bristol Memorial Hospital/Bristol Regional Medical Center from 1977 until retirement October 2007, at which hospital he has also served as Chief of Staff and as member and/or chairman of multiple committees, and as co-medical director of critical care services.

Currently he still takes intensive care/pulmonary call as a Blue Ridge Medical Specialists one weekend monthly and he is Medical Director/Chief of Staff of Select Specialty Hospital - Tri Cities.
