Select Specialty Hospital - Pontiac combines the specialized expertise of a large hospital with the personalized attention of a smaller setting.

Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for a longer acute care stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma, or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care for optimal recovery. Select Specialty Hospitals are designed specifically to meet the needs of these types of extended acute care patients.

Select Specialty Hospital - Pontiac provides specialized services designed to meet the unique needs of our patients. We focus on caring for medically complex patients including patients that require pulmonary management and vent weaning, wound care and rehabilitation therapy services.

Our pulmonary program provides comprehensive pulmonary management for patients requiring diverse medical and respiratory care. Our program has been very successful in weaning ventilator dependent patients who previously failed to wean in a short-term acute care setting. Our program is managed by a Pulmonologist and Pulmonary Program Manager. We provide highly individualized treatment strategies for each patient with daily physician visits, specialty consults, respiratory therapy interventions, speech pathology assessments, and diagnostic studies. Our program provides rehabilitation interventions, including walking patients on a portable ventilator, when indicated, to progress the pulmonary patient to a stable medical status, manageable at home or in a sub-acute setting.

Select Specialty Hospital - Pontiac also provides specialized wound care services. We provide aggressive wound management to patients with impaired tissue integrity that are at risk for complications. The primary focus is to enhance wound healing through a multidisciplinary approach to care. We have a team of professional personnel that provide individualized clinical analysis and close monitoring of patient care including a Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence Care Registered Nurse and a Plastic Surgeon. We have a Rehabilitation Manager that oversees speech, occupational and physical therapy services provided to our patients.

Each patient is also assigned a case manager who will guide their case from admission through discharge. The case manager is available to answer questions, assist with insurance and to plan a safe, timely and appropriate discharge. Select Specialty Hospitals are Medicare certified and accredited by the Joint Commission. We participate with most major health insurers.

We are located on the 8th floor(s) of Saint Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, which allows us seamless transition of patients.

Medical Director

Dr. Fadi Salloum M.D. is the Select Specialty Hospital - Pontiac Medical Director. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and comes to us from Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital where he rounds as a hospitalist and does teaching rounds with the residents.

Dr. Salloum is also on staff at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital and he is Medical Director at several area skilled nursing facilites. Dr. Salloum works diligently to ensure Select Specialty Hospital - Pontiac patients receive quality care.
