Our Admissions Coordinator will process your referrals to Select Specialty Hospital - Miami quickly and efficiently. An on-site evaluation of the patient will be completed by a Clinical Liaison within hours of the referral. The Clinical Liaison is your personal contact to Select Specialty Hospital. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the services we provide. Once an admission decision has been determined, the patient can often transfer the same day.

Success Story 1

Her name is Josefa Berrayarza she came to Select Specialty Hospital - Miami after being hospitalized with hyponatremia, and complications of respiratory failure requiring the need for mechanical ventilation.

Josefa was admitted for treatment at Select Specialty Hospital - Miami for her respiratory condition and an infectious process. Success Story 2

Maybelle Johnson came to Select Specialty Hospital Miami on November 19, 2008 on full ventilator support. Initially she was very anxious and constantly complaining of short of breath. Her daughter Katrina was at the bedside giving her support and watching over her. The staff at Select started the weaning procedure immediately and constantly gave Maybelle reassurance that she was getting better. She would get very nervous at times during the weaning process, but after she was weaned to a T-piece with a passy muir valve and she heard her voice for the first time Maybelle was so excited she called her entire family and she herself told them she was getting better. When we asked Maybelle how Select helped improve her health she said “I came in to Select hardly breathing and I left walking.”

Maybelle verbalized to the staff that her biggest dream was to eat again, and when she finally passed her swallow test she knew her dream was close to being fulfilled.
Fortunately, Maybelle’s respiratory muscles were strong. She was able to eventually breathe on her own and her body got stronger so the therapists went to work on getting her reconditioned. “The first time I walked in the hallways with physical therapy the staff cheered for me” says Maybelle.

Maybelle was eventually decannulated and able to go home to her family. We followed up with her after the discharge from Select and she expressed her satisfaction and fond memories of the care she received, she said ” In the other hospitals I wasn’t able to get to know the staff, everyday I would have a different nurse, but at Select you get to know the nurses and the aids. The respiratory team was awesome and the administration was always there for me.” Thanks to the team at Select Specialty Hospital Maybelle was able to go home and return to her favorite hobbies of reading and watching football.

Medical Director

Dr. Ramses Vega is a graduate of San Juan Batista Medical School. He successfully completed his Internal Medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He is an active member of the American Medical Association, Dade County Medical Association, American Society of Internal Medicine, the Southern Medical Association and the Henry Ford Medical Association.

Dr. Vega is in private practice. He owns and operates Vega Medical Center. Throughout his career, Dr. Vega has held directorship positions and has been a board member at several acute care hospitals and post acute care settings within the community.

Dr. Vega has completed various publications and lectures. He currently has a publication in progress on Well’s Syndrome.
