Select Specialty Hospital - Lexington combines the specialized expertise of a large hospital with the personalized attention of a smaller setting.
Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for a longer acute care stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma, or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care for optimal recovery. Select Specialty Hospitals are designed specifically to meet the needs of these types of extended acute care patients.
Select Specialty Hospital of Lexington is a recipient of the 2008 Hospital of Excellence Award. We not only specialize in complex respiratory care, but have established ourselves in the community as the leader for caring for chronically, critically ill patients. Our dedicated staff of experienced registered nurses, LPNs, respiratory therapist and physical/occupational therapists will provide the continuum of care patients require once they leave the traditional hospital setting.
Select Specialty Hospital - Lexington's Pulmonary Program is directed by Pulmonary Associates; Dr. John Harrison, Dr. Randall Thompson, Dr. Clay Gerhardstein, Dr. Alexander Tzouanakis, and Dr. John White. This highly experienced team is responsible for managing and maintaining the integrity of our aggressive respiratory therapy program. The success of our ventilator weaning can be attributed to our pulmonary driven weaning protocols and weekly wean team rounds that include the physician, respiratory therapist, nurse, dietician, PT/OT/Speech Therapist and pharmacist.
Each patient is also assigned a case manager who will guide their case from admission through discharge. The case manager is available to answer questions, assist with insurance and to plan a safe, timely and appropriate discharge. Select Specialty Hospitals are Medicare certified and accredited by the Joint Commission. We participate with most major health insurers.
We are located on the 3rd floor(s) of UK Healthcare Good Samaritan Hospital, which allows us seamless transition of patients.
