Select Specialty Hospital - Laurel Highlands combines the specialized expertise of a large hospital with the personalized attention of a smaller setting.

Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for a longer acute care stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma, or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care for optimal recovery. Select Specialty Hospitals are designed specifically to meet the needs of these types of extended acute care patients.

Select Specialty Hospital - Laurel Highlands has offered state-of-the-art care to patients for over a decade. Conveniently located in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Select Specialty Hospital - Laurel Highlands commonly cares for patients hospitalized in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. Our 40 total beds include ten private rooms, a four-bed high observation unit and two bariatric suites. The nursing unit is divided into three wings, with each patient room in close proximity to the nurses station. All beds are equipped to meet the varying needs of medically and surgically complex cases.

Our Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified and critically care trained nursing and respiratory staff are part of the interdisciplinary patient care team which also includes approximately 170 physicians and specialists, a wound care nurse, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and a dietician.

Each patient is also assigned a case manager who will guide their case from admission through discharge. The case manager is available to answer questions, assist with insurance and to plan a safe, timely and appropriate discharge. Select Specialty Hospitals are Medicare certified and accredited by the Joint Commission. We participate with most major health insurers.

We are located on the 3rd floor(s) of Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, which allows us seamless transition of patients.

Our Admissions Coordinator will process your referrals to Select Specialty Hospital - Laurel Highlands quickly and efficiently. An on-site evaluation of the patient will be completed by a Clinical Liaison within hours of the referral. The Clinical Liaison is your personal contact to Select Specialty Hospital. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the services we provide. Once an admission decision has been determined, the patient can often transfer the same day.

Medical Director

Our Medical Director is Dr. Steven F. Wodzinski MD. Dr. Wodzinski is board certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine/Sleep Medicine and is an actively practicing physician within the Excela Health hospital network. He joins Select Specialty's physician leadership team of Dr. Robert Zaccagnini (Pulmonary Program Director), Dr. David Kenney (Wound Care Program Director), Dr. Geoffrey Joseph (Quality Control Program Director), and Dr. Matthew Panahandeh (Medical Complex Program Director).

Community News

In 2011, Select Specialty employees particpated in the 2011 American Red Cross Bowling for Disaster Relief Event which raised over $16,000 for local disaster victims. Select Specialty Hospital also participated in raising charitable funds for Autism Awarenes and Excela Health Home Hospice.
