Select Specialty Hospital - Columbus (Mount Carmel Campus) combines the specialized expertise of a large hospital with the personalized attention of a smaller setting.

Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for a longer acute care stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma, or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care for optimal recovery. Select Specialty Hospitals are designed specifically to meet the needs of these types of extended acute care patients.

The Mount Carmel Campus of Select Specialty Hospital - Columbus is staffed by a highly skilled team of board certified physicians and healthcare professionals. This team includes physicians, specialists, nurses, respiratory therapists, advance practice nurses, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, wound nurses and case managers. We have dialysis, pharmacy, laboratory,rehab and radiology departments on-site. All of our rooms are private and our services include daily physician visits, transitional care unit, special care unit, state-of-the-art telemetry, ventilator weaning, 24 hour respiratory care,hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis, nutritional support, bariatric suites and ACLS certified nurses and respiratory staff.

Each patient is also assigned a case manager who will guide their case from admission through discharge. The case manager is available to answer questions, assist with insurance and to plan a safe, timely and appropriate discharge. Select Specialty Hospitals are Medicare certified and accredited by the Joint Commission. We participate with most major health insurers.

We are located on the 5th floor(s) of Mount Carmel Medical Center, which allows us seamless transition of patients.

An on-site evaluation of the patient will be completed by a Clinical Liaison within hours of the referral. The Clinical Liaison is your personal contact to Select Specialty Hospital. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the services we provide. Once an admission decision has been determined, the patient can often transfer the same day.

Critical care medicine deals with life support or organ support for patients who are critically ill. A critical care physician diagnoses, treats, and supports patients who may be in an intensive care unit, or who may have multiple organ dysfunction. Patients who receive intensive care treatment are usually critically ill patients who are treated after major surgery and require intensive monitoring. The critical care or intensive care physician may also communicate with the patient’s primary physician, other specialists, and the critical care staff to coordinate treatment and care.
